You’re wondering why your pre-school kid won’t sleep like any other ordinary kid? Well, you’re not alone in this. Many mother’s get a hard time putting their kids to bed may it be an afternoon nap or night time sleep.
“I don’t give him coffee”, one mother voiced out. Of course you don’t, but maybe there are other caffeine containing beverage or food that you give him. How about a chocolate drink? Or cola? Remember, they both contain caffeine. Or sweets probably before bedtime? That causes them to be in that hyperactive state.
And it’s not only in whatever they partake, but also of the things they do prior to tucking them in. It has been proven that television, computer or video games makes their minds alert with all the colors and the abrupt changes in pictures. Even in adults, such activities stays in our memory that when you finally lay down and tries to sleep you somehow sees them still as if recorded in our own monitor inside our head.
Therefore, it is advised that a few hours before bedtime, it is best to have a routine of having simple and relaxing activities. Story telling is the most popular to parents. I do that before, but then my little one have this vivid imagination that when I tell her stories, it’s like letting her watch a movie. Since finding out that she is inclined to music as well, I started our own routine of drinking warm milk (to relax the muscles), putting down the lights and either singing to her or putting on soft music. Well, of course she sometimes sings along at first but soon enough she will be lulled to sleep.
Have your own routine; just make sure that it will make them sleepy and not more awake.
