Vegetarian does not necessarily mean its pure vegetables only in their diet. There are different kinds of vegetarian: lacto-vegetarian (veggies and milk/milk products), ovo-vegetarian (egg), pollo-vegetarian (chicken), combinations of these (lacto-ovo/ pollo-lacto-ovo, ovo-pollo, lacto-pollo) or pure vegan (veggies only). VEGETARIANISM arose as religious belief, economic, ethnic, ecological reasons or by choice.
The problem with this vegetarianism is when partaker is not aware of the risk for nutrient deficiency. Because with this diet pattern, sources to achieve complete nutrition is limited. It is then appropriate that sufficient knowledge with the food sources be gained. It is not as easy as ABC since there are a lot to lose without the protein coming from meat, poultry, fish, dairy, dairy products or all of them. One may get protein from vegetable sources but there should be proper combinations be able to get the so-called “complete protein” that our body needs. Complete protein in the sense that all essential amino acids are present; example of which are Tryptophan, leucine, valine…and many others.
Thus, before deciding to be a vegetarian, or if you are already one, try assessing your diet and know if you are consuming the right quality and quantity of food to make sure you are on the way to good health and not the other way around.
