FAT BELLY. Yes this is the hardest to trim down...but I can show you how 😉
A little info here for you...
Know your fat belly:
Visceral fat - inner fat
These are those wrapped around your internal organs that cannot be dissolved with just exercise alone. The more yiu have it, the highee risk to health complications like Diabetes and Heart Disease.
Subcutaneous fat - outer fat
These are those that you can pinch or grab. Its the bigger skin. Burn it out though not necessarily a risk factor to health concerns but more for the most-loved-to-have body shape.
BOTH FAT causes belly to protrude.
Thus we should take them off of you for a better looking and healthier you.
Who have the highest chance of accumulating
both fat:
- enjoys sedentary lifestyle or those we call sit-down people
- those with little or no aerobic exercise.
- minimal muscle mass.
- Eats more calories than burn
- The insulin resistant or diabetic
Visceral fat is definite to be a lot for those people with Subcutaneous fat. Therefore it is suggested to start shedding inside-out. Start identifying with visual inspection and be aware that waist measure of 40in for men denotes high amount of those internal fat, 35in for women. An MRI procedure can give you exact measure if you need one but this outright measure can already be your prompt to start losing.
How? I can guide you through dietary counseling what amount of food, movement and the safest and most effective supplement that can surely put you back on track as you were in high school or better 😉

Hygiene is the first to look into. Proper brushing using a fairly new toothbrush (not more than 4 months use) every after eating and include your tongue (or with a scraper) to rid of foul smell producing bacteria. Flossing should be considered a must as much as brushing and must be done at least once a day. Your dentures or retainers also have to be cleansed thoroughly. Antibacterial toothpastes and mouth rinse helps eliminate or at least reduce bacteria, consequently, bad breath. See your dentist every 6 months for prophylaxis and to right away treat whatever needs treatment. Smoking is an understatement...and I need not say more.
Diet comes second since it also is a factor to bad odor in the mouth. Protein, sweet and acid producing food are the major concern. IT IS NOT HOW THEY SMELL but of how they become the food for oral bacterial that produces bad breath and of how they give appropriate environment for these bacteria to thrive inside your mouth. Protein include meat, fish, poultry, egg and dairy products like milk and butter. Sweets contain glucose, and bacteria feeds on glucose. Sugar is altogether being avoided or taken in moderation for good health; for weight management, for blood sugar level in diabetes, for tooth care...so why not add for nice smelling breath. Acidic foods like coffee and citric juices like pineapple and tomato juice also contributes to bad breath. Unfortunately, these are just amongst the acidic foods that people tend to like more over alkaline or neutral food that are blander in taste. It is then best to drink a lot of water at all times to wash away the food particles and juices left in the mouth and to always practice good oral hygiene. It also gives extra benefit to avoid high smelling food like garlic, onion, curry, alcohol and the likes if you have no way of brushing it off right away or if you have the need to converse more closely to an important individual that you might give negative impression.
These are advices that can save you from clinging and believing in some bad breath report scam. You may look into appropriate and more intense cure if your problem is more than just the usual bad breath. There may be a need for chemical or even medical interventions.

You have aching joints? You cannot just say it is old age rheumatism. You cannot also claim them to be bone fracture. Have you thought of arthritis? Well, it might be. It can be RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS or GOUTY ARTHRITIS. Consult your doctor and he may advice you to have blood samples taken to be sure which is which, because you cannot know for sure and there are different treatment and precautions for different diseases.
If your blood test results high in URIC ACID, then you have Gouty Arthritis where there is an accumulation of purine/urate crystals therefore should be on a LOW PURINE DIET.
What is a low purine diet? In layman's language it is simply a diet guide to the daily consumption of the right kind of food which are those with least purine content. It is then appropriate to know which food are the high sources of purine. Protein are mostly to contain high purine. Organ meats, tuna family and other salt water fishes like anchovies as well as shellfishes like mussels and clams, beans and bean family, also contain purine. Although animal sources can be named to be more of a culprit than plant sources to gout, according to many studies and research, results still varies in every individual. There are some that are more sensitive than others. One could outright feel joint pains after consuming lentils while others don't. Fat and dairy products also give untoward effect to some, just as yeast does. There are food also that are moderately high and must be taken in moderation (but totally avoided by those with severe gout) such as oats, cauliflower, mushrooms, peas, duck, goose, turkey, bouillon.
Then again, lets go back to basic, "Consult your physician" first. Because you cannot know for sure. You might be avoiding those magnificent food for the wrong personal diagnosis you are doing.

Who does not experience acidity? It is a normal occurrence that we suffer at least once in our lives. Since it is a natural reaction of our body to secrete acid every time there is food to digest, we all have acid in our stomachs. The problem comes when we eat highly acidic foods, or those that needs more acid to digest that particular food, that is beyond our tolerance.
We then suffer stomach pains and at times have gas pains. It's easy to cure it though with over the counter antacids.
But be reminded that too often bouts of acidity and prolong periods of having it can cause further harm to our stomach linings that in the end be the Stomach Ulcers we do not want to have. Advice then is to avoid too much of those acidic foods more so those that you cannot tolerate much. Acidic foods include spicy, caffeine containing, alcohol, carbonated drinks and hard to digest food. Again as I always say, eat everything in moderation.
Though at times that you already have acidity, you are advised to have Bland Diet. A post I did months ago on this is your way out of unbearable pain.
Aside from the food, there are other factors to acidity. Stress can be one of them. Therefore, live life the way it should be lived, one day at a time with no stress on what might or may have been.

There are two kinds of Hypoallergenic Diet: the ordinary Hypollergenic Diet that are more common of the two and the Hypoallergenic Diet with No Food Additives.
During occurrences of allergy breakouts, we always look back to what we have last eaten. Our body have a natural means of telling us that there is something that is causing the attack. The rashes are more like an emergency light in this instance. There are varying other symptoms depending on individuals and the reason for the allergy attack. But for food allergies it is most common to experience having rashes, itchy skin to skin hives, which sometimes were quickly followed by headaches, dyspnea (difficulty in breathing), abdomina pain, vomitting, diarrhea. Depending on the rate of severity, it can cause more severe reactions like bronchoconstriction, (closure of airways) edema, hypotension, coma, and even death. Reactions can be triggered right after ingestion of the food allergen or can be delayed. It is advisable to have anti-allergy drugs inside your bag if you are prone to food allergies or have history of attacks. Severe reactions needs injection of epinephrine right away.
With such knowledge, we should be careful of what we take in. When eating out, we have to verify if the food served do not have an allergen that might give us untoward reaction. This is if we know specifically what causes our allergy attacks. If not so, we are to avoid foods that are allergenic.
Hypoallergenic Diet - Poultry; Egg; Seafoods like shrimps, shells (mussles and the like), squid, crab; Salmon family (Tuna and the like; and all food containing them (example of which is Leche Flan which contains egg, or Salads that have chicken).
Hypoallergenic Diet with No Food Additives - are more than just those food mentioned above. In addition to those (or in some cases apart from those above, patients only are allergic to food additives) are anything that makes your food unnatural. They are food chemicals that are often added in food especially those not prepared at home. Artificial colorings; artificial flavors; MSG (monosodium glutamate) mostly found in preserved and canned items and chips; sugar substitutes (aspartame in the form of Equal and its competitors or now added in sugar-free juices, biscuits, chocolates, icecreams; Sodium Nitrate/nitrite used in preserving meats like those frozen food found in the grocery, bacon, tocino. longganisa and the like; Potassium Bromate in some breads; and Sulfites that are mostly used in preserving fresh fruits and vegetables.
Yes, you read that correctly, I had osteoporosis. Not because I am an old lady, mind you. Because truth be told, it was detected a few years ago, when I was still not in my 30's. My doctor, a rheumatologist whose the specialty for bones was truly surprised when the result for my bone mineral density test or densitology revealed that I am porotic. At first she could not believe when I showed her the test I got from a seminar...that I have osteoporosis, so she had me take this more intensive test.
I said "I HAD OSTEOPOROSIS"...past tense. Because with the free medications given me from that tertiary hospital I was working at, Fosamax and Calcium with Vitamin D, my bone toughened up a little. It is now Osteopenia instead of Osteoporosis. I was able to beat the margin for me to be diagnosed as such.
The reason for me having it when I am still young ended up to being just hereditary. My thyroid was checked, no problem there. My hormones were checked, no problem there either. I am a milk drinker and loves calcium rich foods therefore could not blame it on my intake. More to absorption probably. Test after test were made and they could not find the origin of it. Hence it was concluded to be hereditary. This disease actually was not known to my greatgrans, and so I cannot really confirm that they have it early on. I just remember them to be hunched over...but well, most oldies are hunched.
According to Medline Plus, "Osteoporosis is a silent disease. You might not know you have it until you break a bone." Very true. Or like me, the moment you feel back pains and have it checked, then you'll know what could be wrong. It is a must that you know so you can avoid possible damage to your bones it being brittle if you have porotic bones. You wouldn't want to end up paralyzed when you slipped from playing rough games not being aware that you can be that breakable!!!
Advice? If you have back pains or even just the risk factors to osteoporosis of getting older, being small and thin (as I was), having a family history of osteoporosis, taking certain medicines, being a white or Asian woman, not taking in much calcium, without much exposure to sun to activate your vitamin D, have sedentary lifestyle and a smoker...have your bones checked.
**Even if you only have osteopenia (low bone mass) or osteomalacia (softening of bones) it's best that you have it checked.
Again, PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE. Therefore, MOVE, LOVE THE SUN, TAKE CALCIUM RICH FOODS and DO AWAY WITH DRINKING AND SMOKING. In short, have a healthy lifestyle.

If you were admitted in a hospital with diagnosis of dengue fever or probably presuming that you might have it, this will be the diet that will be prescribed to you. The same for any disease that may give your doctors reason to trace if there is any bleeding that will pass through your stools.
Therefore, it will not be good to alarm them with "possible" bleeding just because your stool suddenly turned black, or have traces of red or black eliminates thus you will be asked to avoid dark colored foods. This includes red meat (beef, pork, lamb, goat, and the likes including organ meats), dark leafy or non-leafy vegetables (swamp cabbage/kangkong, okra and the likes), red bell pepper or chili pepper or any that leaves the body in such dark or red colors.
Suffice it to say, food high in iron should also be temporarily omitted for iron makes the stool dark. Seasonings like catsup or soy sauce actually can be taken since they do not leave the body as such, nor do they affect darkening of stool BUT this tend to confuse the patients therefore wiser to altogether avoid in the food preparation anyhow, this is just a temporary diet that the attending physician should and will change the moment they are assured of the patients condition.

Standing up after eating will not give you big tummies.
True. IF: you do this all the time PLUS doing other exercises and activities to make you lose those calories you take in everyday. Standing up will make your metabolism work more than sitting down.
The reality you have to face if you want a perfectly nice healthy body is for you to take the right amount of calories for your height and daily physical activity; and for you to have ways in burning them like routine exercise and physical movements.
As in my not so previous post on hypertension, I am here yet again to give advices, this time more focused on diet that is advantageous for hypertensive individuals as well as people preventing hypertension.
If you go back to my post on The Very Common Hypertension you will see FOOD HABITS being a factor to having a heart problem. And hypertension being the primary symptom, it is but appropriate that we have a change in our food consumption, both in QUALITY and QUANTITY.
More often than not people are aware of the do's and dont's but prefers to ignore them. Especially when we speak of food and how nice it is to eat and splurge into eating when it is really tasty. And what makes a food tasty?
In conclusion, diet for the heart is also a diet for hypertension. Dietitians can give you specific instructions based on your usual intake that will help you cope with the need for change. It need not be "FOOD FOR THE SICK" as most people call it because it can be as appetizing and as good as normal food (or close to it) but healthier. All you need is the proper guidance on how to make everything work, your commitment to achieving the healthy heart that you want and the knowledge and motivation that will help you in maintaining the habit than backsliding and going through it all over again. REMEMBER:
If you go back to my post on The Very Common Hypertension you will see FOOD HABITS being a factor to having a heart problem. And hypertension being the primary symptom, it is but appropriate that we have a change in our food consumption, both in QUALITY and QUANTITY.
More often than not people are aware of the do's and dont's but prefers to ignore them. Especially when we speak of food and how nice it is to eat and splurge into eating when it is really tasty. And what makes a food tasty?
Let us start with FAT/OIL. Fat makes food wonderfully tasty. Not just in the form of visible fats like pork fat, beef fat, butter, bacon etc., but as well as oil in fried foods, cream in cakes, mayonnaise in salads, high fat milk in chocolates, ice creams...so on and so forth. But remember that we just have certain allowance of fat in our daily diet, may it be good fat or bad fat. ANYTHING IN EXCESS of the allowance is stored as fat in our belly's, arms, legs, or what we call saggy "flabs". They also will be converted into cholesterol that is not good for the heart.
Fat and oil cannot and must not be removed in the diet because as in our elementary education, they are our GLOW foods. (Remember Go, Grow and Glow!?) We need them BUT we have to know the limit. We have different allowances depending on our weight, height and physical activity (10% of our caloric requirement for the day)...but we have the same need to choose for the GOOD FAT instead of the bad fat. Bad Fat or Bad Cholesterol comes from animal sources and dairy products. Meat, chicken, milk, butter, etc. Good Fat or Good Cholesterol on the other hand can be found in fish. Thus, EAT MORE FISH and seldom of meat.
SECOND WILL BE SALT. "In excess of everything is not good" is one of my favorite phases. Salt goes with this. Too much of salt intake can disrupt our systems equilibrium, specifically the sodium and potassium concentration in our blood. This can be translated in layman's language of "the blood is thickening".
THIRD WILL BE THE FORE MENTIONED CALORIC INTAKE. Too much calories will be stored and in the long run will accumulate and increase ones weight. Overweight and obesity will give tremendous burden to the heart as well thus increasing blood pressure.
REMEMBER:
PREVENTION IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN CURE.
"EAT LIKE A KING IN THE MORNING
AND LIKE A BEGGAR IN THE EVENING"
AND LIKE A BEGGAR IN THE EVENING"
This has always been part of my lecture or dietary advice whenever I am on that part of HOW MUCH FOOD CONSUMPTION. I give personalized diet advice since each and every one of us differs. We have different lifestyle, different preference, different activities, different up-bringing...we are all different. And so the diet of another, does not always go with another.
BUT that phrase above applies to all. Not as exaggerated perhaps, but more like it. Breakfast being the very first food intake that which we need to face the day head-on. should not be omitted, instead taken as full meal. We need sufficient calorie intake in right distribution to carbohydrates (or as in elementary education: go food), protein (grow) and fat (glow). Vitamins and minerals should also be in appropriate amounts to help us stay in good health. Supplements needed if our food choices does not ensure sufficient quantity. Lunch to keep us going and serves as the need to take in more fuel to avoid inability of car to move on. Dinner or supper need only be enough for us to complete the day and pull through without a hunger pang to be felt in the middle of the night. And snacks in between, I give them to increase metabolism. This helps in assuring your body that all energy taken in the main meals can be consumed and not stored since there will be another tiny meal to be taken in between. This will NOT make you gain weight provided that you EAT IN MODERATION.
Small but frequent feedings are more advisable than large seldom ones.

Vegetarian does not necessarily mean its pure vegetables only in their diet. There are different kinds of vegetarian: lacto-vegetarian (veggies and milk/milk products), ovo-vegetarian (egg), pollo-vegetarian (chicken), combinations of these (lacto-ovo/ pollo-lacto-ovo, ovo-pollo, lacto-pollo) or pure vegan (veggies only). VEGETARIANISM arose as religious belief, economic, ethnic, ecological reasons or by choice.
The problem with this vegetarianism is when partaker is not aware of the risk for nutrient deficiency. Because with this diet pattern, sources to achieve complete nutrition is limited. It is then appropriate that sufficient knowledge with the food sources be gained. It is not as easy as ABC since there are a lot to lose without the protein coming from meat, poultry, fish, dairy, dairy products or all of them. One may get protein from vegetable sources but there should be proper combinations be able to get the so-called “complete protein” that our body needs. Complete protein in the sense that all essential amino acids are present; example of which are Tryptophan, leucine, valine…and many others.
Thus, before deciding to be a vegetarian, or if you are already one, try assessing your diet and know if you are consuming the right quality and quantity of food to make sure you are on the way to good health and not the other way around.

Talking about pooping may be funny, but it’s not a laughing matter to have Constipation. Some battles with this condition every time; children or adult alike. Either they experience headache, malaise or the feeling of being ill-at ease, and even foul breath…plus the usual tummy ache one does when one has to go, but the problem is…could not.
This constipation comes about due to lack of fiber and fluid in the diet, lack of exercise mostly to bed confined individuals, not responding right away to the urge to defecate like when in the field most of the time and have no choice but to postpone going to the john, over-use of laxatives resulting to dependence and immunity, and over consumption of constipating foods.
What to do then TO AVOID constipation is to increase fiber intake or to include it in every meal. Sources from fibrous fruits like oranges/pineapple are preferable, leafy vegetables, beans, legumes, oats, bran, cereals, etc. Increase your fluid intake, 8-10 glasses if possible. Remember that Agar-agar (jello/gelatin) helps increase water in feces by binding it there and so can be used as dessert or included in drinks. Simple carbohydrate or sugar can stimulate peristalsis thus instant juices is also an ideal drink, prune juice being the best among the rest. Fat serves as lubricant, but the use of good fat/oil is advisable. Mineral oil is being eliminated as a choice since it causes malabsorption of fat soluble vitamins.
We don’t want causing more trouble than mere constipation.
Aside from diet we need to keep moving, exercise really gives all the advantages ones health needs. Also, do not delay pooping. Give it time as you do taking a bath. Try potty putter if you want. This is a fun way of going to the john and relaxing, if you need to. Some need music, some need silence and concentration. Some read, and some play. This then is an option for you. As always: EVERYTHING IN EXCESS IS NOT GOOD…and so with laxatives. Please consult your physician. Especially if you already HAVE the irregularity of bowel movement, because it’s not always high fiber diet to which is given for the management for ATONIC CONSTIPATION; It can be bland and low fiber diet for SPASTIC CONSTIPATION.

It is disheartening to hear someone admit of not favoring vegetables. I even have encountered some who do not even know the names of those greens that are mighty important in our daily diet.
Fiber can be called the “sweeper” of body trash. It carries off toxins that may be scattered along our passages; excess fats, unwanted left-over’s, whatever else that we need to get rid of. Gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases can be avoided if we give importance to this high fiber diet.
We will have lower risk to Gastric Ulcers if we have fiber in our diet since it alters gastric emptying time. It helps in clearing our intestines since it normalizes intestinal transit time thus will prevent us from suffering from constipation and hemorrhoids, having Diverticulitis or other lower gastrointestinal problems, and finally the colon cancer that is getting higher and higher in prevalence. It also decreases serum cholesterol and triglycerides, or in lay mans term, our blood streams carrying fat can be diverted into passing them out than getting clogged in our arteries thus also reducing risk to Heart Disease. Possible gall bladder stones are eliminated due to its capability of binding bile acids to which the gall bladder utilizes. And since it delays glucose absorption those excess sugar can be managed. Glucose control is improved due to increased sensitivity of peripheral tissue to insulin.
Fiber in the form of fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grain, cereals, oats, wheat; may it be water soluble or insoluble, is essential in every person’s diet. It is just a full diet with greater emphasis on fiber-rich food.
How inconvenient will it be to do what we love most, to eat, and be free of those diseases fore mentioned?

Zero fat means NO FAT, GOOD OR BAD!
I know we should have GOOD FAT. Good fat that we call Polyunsaturated Fat and are found as fish fat. Taking a lot of this helps us achieve our goal of lowering bad cholesterol and increasing good cholesterol, therefore lowering our risk of heart disease and other diseases that are related to it such as diabetes and stroke.
So what could be the reason for TOTALLY ELIMINATING FAT in our diet? One thing, Gall bladder stones (with or without infections). Rationale for this is to prevent stimulation and contraction of the gall bladder, it being where the bile are stored to which emulsifies fat. Thus, if you are preventing pain due to your gall stones, avoid intake of fat; animal fat (meat, fish) dairy products (milk, butter) or any food/product that is not fat-free.
Better yet, have those stones removed!

A truly sorrowful goodbye one can ever think of saying next to a loss of a love one. Imagine loosing all of them who gives you the nicest smile you can ever give and the chance to eat every edible item you possibly desire to eat.
And so, it is also a focus of concern to nutrient deficiency. Being totally toothless or have poor dentures is a reason to difficulty of eating, either due to old age, poor gums or dental carries.
We therefore need to help in management by advising Mechanical Soft diet since their chewing mechanism is the problem; anything that will not give them the difficulty to swallow food is allowed if no other restrictions for any other disease not in connection to the said problem. Some have their food blenderized, but some tolerates potatoes, rice gruel or soft rice; soft chicken/meat or fish; easy to squash vegetables and fruits.
Remember that High Caloric meals are advised to avoid malnutrition and vitamins supplement if not met through natural food intake.
You’re wondering why your pre-school kid won’t sleep like any other ordinary kid? Well, you’re not alone in this. Many mother’s get a hard time putting their kids to bed may it be an afternoon nap or night time sleep.
“I don’t give him coffee”, one mother voiced out. Of course you don’t, but maybe there are other caffeine containing beverage or food that you give him. How about a chocolate drink? Or cola? Remember, they both contain caffeine. Or sweets probably before bedtime? That causes them to be in that hyperactive state.
And it’s not only in whatever they partake, but also of the things they do prior to tucking them in. It has been proven that television, computer or video games makes their minds alert with all the colors and the abrupt changes in pictures. Even in adults, such activities stays in our memory that when you finally lay down and tries to sleep you somehow sees them still as if recorded in our own monitor inside our head.
Therefore, it is advised that a few hours before bedtime, it is best to have a routine of having simple and relaxing activities. Story telling is the most popular to parents. I do that before, but then my little one have this vivid imagination that when I tell her stories, it’s like letting her watch a movie. Since finding out that she is inclined to music as well, I started our own routine of drinking warm milk (to relax the muscles), putting down the lights and either singing to her or putting on soft music. Well, of course she sometimes sings along at first but soon enough she will be lulled to sleep.
Have your own routine; just make sure that it will make them sleepy and not more awake.
Dengue fever is one of the common causes of morbidity of late caused by the smallest pest we usually live with here in the tropics, the mosquito. Characterized by high fever and chills with frontal headaches, it sometimes is diagnosed as ordinary flu until further symptoms are observes like malaise, anorexia, ocular pain, severe backache, nauseas, vomiting, mild pharyngitis and rashes.
Be informed that dehydration should be managed right away due to vomiting. Patient is at high risk thus it is optimum to rehydrate as soon as possible by intravenous fluid and increased intake of water and juices to replace fluid and electrolyte loss. Due to this vomiting, it is advisable to avoid giving fatty foods and may help alleviating urge with hard candies, Jell-O’s or plain ice drops/ice chips. Antipyretic drugs are given for fever and with it are liquid to soft HIGH CALORIC foods. High caloric in lay man’s language is food not in bulk but is highly nutritious. Feeling of fullness or when bloated will add up to the urge to vomit.
What I hate most is the blood extraction and transfusion needs of patient especially children. Again, PREVENTION RATHER THAN CURE comes to mind! Therefore, have clean and safe environment at all times to avoid these dengue infested mosquitos from camping within your vicinity. Mosquito repellants are encouraged when you are in unknown areas.
Hearing the word FAT often creates negative feedback, dwhen there are also "good fat". These fish fat, as was the focus of my previous post, are good for the body. But it not only gives positive effect on our health but also to our MOODS.
Omega-3-fatty-acids coming either from fatty fishes like the salmon family or from capsules are said to lighten the moods even of thse with polar disorders. In one study, researches have recorded dramatic results of less stress in subjuects given such diet.
Sugar and sweets have time and again given significant findings to affecting moods as well. With these two combined, fat and sugar, chocolate surfaces. And so it is not surpising to hear of CHOCOHOLICS. With chocolates you get the "feel good neurotransmitter", serotonin in the brain, working. And in this event, endorphines are given off which gives one the feeling of pleasure like when we are laughing a lot, listening to good music or hugging. The presence of even the so called PEA (phenylethylamine) that is both in chocolates and is released when in love is something that we all prefers to have to be in that same mood ~ being in love.
