Maybe you have heard of the past months news of areas being flooded due to heavy rainfall, and maybe you are even one of the many who have waded through the muddy water of the flood. It has alarmed me to see in the news of kids playing in those waters, swimming and wading without them knowing how dangerous it is to be exposed to such water. Adults probably are aware of the warning but they had no choice when they were stranded and stuck with no food and water.
LEPTOSIPROSIS is amongst the many concerns when it comes to flood. According to Medline Plus, it is “is a rare, severe, and contagious bacterial infection” caused by Leptospira bacteria that is found in an infected water in warmer climates. Animal urine is the said transmitter. Symptoms are flu-like thus some misdiagnose it as such, and aggravates to serious problem before it be concluded to be Leptospirosis, reason for the mortality rate to increase. Less common symptoms like skin rash, conjunctivitis, and enlarged lymph node should therefore be observed
In conclusion, I remind you to avoid flood water if possible and to right away wash with soap and water if exposed; or to disinfect right away.
It's bad enough to have waters flooding your house and ruining every treasure in it. It's even worst to be exposed to such danger. Sigh.
