The electricity started fluctuating, and I know it will be soon cut-off. Thoughts to those others that may not be having a house as sturdy as ours and even those that are in the far flung areas poor enough to have only cartons of boxes to sleep on to lessen the chill of the pavement as they sleep.
And as always these days, it reminded me of that bone-chilling Day of Judgment. This is just rain and wind that makes us fretful, what of fire shooting down from the sky? My thought traveled from that line that had me calling on to Him once again. Fear shunned away as this sudden thought was born in my mind, this story of Jesus and His apostles at sea and storm struck. That when they anxiously awaken Jesus from His slumber because their boat is wildly tossing away, He told them not to be afraid because He is with them. That they should not lose their faith. THIS OUTRIGHTLY pacify my nerves telling myself, “yeah, what’s this fuss all about anyway?!”

See how God does miracle even in such ordinary day? We may not be aware of it all the time, but He answers to your calling RIGHT AWAY if He knows you are a faithful servant ;)
Common cold is an infectious disease that can be avoided by frequent hand washing and keeping away from those with the said virus. It is transmitted from one to another through secretions in droplets from coughing or sneezing. It is said that “Those who sleep fewer than 7 h
ours per night were three times more likely to develop an infection when exposed than those who sleep 8 or more hours.” There was this belief that those who were exposed to cold weather or rain catches cold, but let us be informed that it is not the rain per se that gives you the cold but because your immune system goes down with exposure to them thus making you more susceptible to infections. And so, it is always advisable to cover your nose and mouth whenever you are around people, they may have colds to pass on…OR YOU may have a cold to pass on.
As is in my last previous, we need vegetables! And aside from all the benefits you get from them, it is truly tasty. Like this one recipe I have seen from a known company Del Monte Kitchenomics, which I have tried cooking just the other day and was rewarded with a pat in the back and loud burps publicizing gratification.
Served with either catsup or vinegar with crushed garlic and chili peppers, it is a delectable cuisine that you can serve your family to partake.
COMBINE ALL INGREDIENTS
¼ Kilo Shelled and chopped shrimps
1 kilo Banana Heart (puso ng saging)
1 med Onion, chopped
5 cloves Garlic, chopped
2 tbsp Soy sauce
1 tbsp Rock salt
3pcs. Whole Eggs, slightly beaten
½ cup Tomato sauce
¼ cup Flour
¼ cup Bread crumbs
½ tsp Pepper
REMEMBER
• discard outer layers of banana heart before chopping.
• Immediately soak in boiling water for 3 minutes then squeeze to remove juice
and water.
• Form mixed ingredients into patties
• To make patties crunchy, pat with bread crumbs before frying in low heat
using vegetable oil (canola oil for me)
Vegetables’ being a good nutrient and mineral source is one amongst the many that needed to be served on the table by all moms. It being low in calorie but rich in fiber is also a daily need by health and fitness buffs. The deprived also resort to veggies as main meal or as extender since they are most economical than the protein sources, meat, poultry and seafood’s.
We cannot and should not do without it. And so, as I do, try shifting to other vegetables that is not as affected as the others. We may try replacing some we used to put together in a meal as an ingredient with another. It may seem unusually inappropriate, but think that you just got used to that specific veg instead of the commonly used. Take for example the cabbage that we are used to putting in our soupy one dish meal Nilaga (boiled) that is really expensive lately since they are coming mostly from Baguio (one of the most affected area with the Typhoon Ondoy), we can instead use pechay (Chinese cabbage) that is a lot cheaper. In short, we have to be a little more imaginative to the switching’s.
Another advice is to start with the backyard planting, which actually should have been done even before these calamities. It a mighty idea but people just don’t see the importance and the sensibility of doing such. And mind you, you don’t need a big space for it. One can do it in pots even. Just try it, and you’ll see how rewarding it is to see it grow because of you ;)
Our car is being eyed by this friend of mine who do the “Buy and Sell Cars” as his source of income. I have got to admit that our family car, an old model Corolla, do need to be upgraded! But as much as I would want to ~ IT’S A FAMILY CAR! It’s not just me deciding.
But I am doing a little convincing. There’s the question of “what to buy after?” and “will brand new or used cars be appropriate?” or “which car dealer would give us the best?” Questions as such should not have been a problem if we were in UK; and if the concern is buying cars.
Then again, IT IS NOT A PROBLEM! Because in our family, as I would advice every family, JUST TALK IT OUT and TOGETHER you’ll get the right decision!
And so I’m here sharing with you this meaningful thought through this email message:
A man was sitting in a barber shop and having his hair cut when through the glass windows peeked a man in rags; a beggar in our common term, smelly even just with the look of him…he went across the road and rummaged through the trash. Unaware that the barber is not just fixed on avoiding his ears with the scissors, he was a bit surprised when it commented that “There really is no God!” Not nearly as astounded with the booming voice than the very thought of what he said made the man commented, “What made you think that?” Without further ado the barber replied, “Well for one, there will be no beggar like that if there is a God”. In deep thought, the man paid his due and went out of the shop.
As he was about to go, a man with long beards and greasy hair stood up front waiting around the curve. The man went back in and announced, “There really is no barber!” The people inside that shop looked up but not as surprised as the barber who service him just a few minutes ago, “How can you say that? I am a barber and I just finished cutting your hair!” The man shrugged towards the greasy haired man outside, “Well for one, there will be no long hairs like that if there is a barber!”
In a flabbergasted tone the barber replied with “ but they just have to look for a barber and ask for his help!” With a smile the man replied, “EXACTLY! Just as it is with God, one just have to look for Him and ask His help!”
First time I read this, I can’t help but applaud the one who started it. It’s clever of him/her to have spread it because it really is moving, and in a way a poke for us to sit back and think if we are as blinded as the barber of God’s presence in our lives.
Just this evening as I was conversing with my brother dietitian during supper, he shared of uninformed nurses of the evolution of this specified diet. If before the patient suffering from Loose Bowel Movement was restricted of any other food intake but the BRAT, just as technology continues it’s growth, knowledge did likewise; and so the patient is not to be starved but fed with more nutritious foods to combat vitamin and mineral loss. Dehydration does not only mean fluid loss, but electrolytes as well; Sodium and Potassium are amongst them which were the first to be discharged thus foods high in these minerals are to be given as replacement. Banana and apple are good sources of such and that is the reason it is the first in the list. Instead of tea, apple juice and/or electrolyte solutions should be included in the meal tray (Gatorade is a readily available source). Crackers, toasted bread or rice in the form of gruel (in light consistency so as not to burden the gut), boiled chicken breast, egg or fish as protein source are also appropriate to be provided as in any other diet.
In conclusion, THEY CAN EAT! Just keep the meals small but frequent, non-fatty and none too heavy and difficult to digest. Vegetables are to be omitted since they attract water thus not helping our goal in halting watery stools. So next time you have it…EAT but choose the right food!
Often, they were words of wisdom from our very own tour guides, our parents. I have a lot of them because they never faltered in showing us the best way, always steering us on to the right path. They have instilled in us the love for our family, for one another. And one
unforgettable teaching of love is our loyalty to each one. That no matter what happens, we stick beside our siblings. It’s not relevant if your sib is on the right or wrong; what is important is that you be there for one another! Because there should be no one and nothing to come in between you, and that there should be no one better to support you more than each other.Treasures such as this are kept in the confines of my very soul. And I know, I will honor it as much as I love my parents.
I have not been put to test for a long while, or maybe I have been but have not even been aware of it…because I never felt that adrenaline working for the longest time already. And just this morning, it’s surprising to have concluded that I’M DONE WITH THE JITTERS because I know the CENTER of my life and that I know my own purpose; that there is nothing left for me to worry over when it comes to worldly things.
Yes, worldly things because as of the present I am sure that GOD IS THE CENTER OF MY LIFE and that He is all too powerful to do what He thinks is best for me. IT MADE MY LIFE EASIER TO LIVE that very moment I surrendered my life to Him and have accepted my fate of passing through this life on the way to a better place, and that’s none other than by His side. And so, all these things on earth is LESS IMPORTANT than what makes Him happy, then why not just follow His commandments which is the only way to make Him happy at the same time assure also your eternal happiness? Your forever! That is why, my 4 years out of practicing my profession and going back to it is not at all making me fidgety or nervous when taking exams and interviews ~ because whether I pass it or not, I believe there is a reason for it. That is the reason why, I just offer it to Him and accept what He makes happen. Though, of course it also is factor to be confident and prepared ;)
Honestly, I’m not getting any younger! It’s been decades since I really did some serious exercise. And when this word is uttered, you see people dropping shoulders saying “poof! No can do”! We have to admit that it’s probably 10:1 ratio as to the number of individual with a routine exercise; almost non-existent to working moms and anyone reaching age of 40. At 30, probability is down to maybe 5% of all my acquaintance.
But we have to admit that we are aware of its benefits and importance. What we need is motivation and commitment PLUS an understanding that it doesn’t need to be as bone breaking as weight lifting nor to be lethal as Taebo. It can be anything that would fit your preference, so long as it is done gradually, at least 45 minutes and 3-4 times a week. It is motivating if you have a partner or a group of friends to do it with.
If the excuse of having NO TIME being a career oriented individual, do it with your colleagues after office hours. I hear of company sports fest being done and so far I hear them to be working out. Meaning, it can be done! Another most common heard off concern is the need to go home to his family right away; a stationary bike is a good solution to home-bodies. That’s what a friends dad do while watching the television, a few minutes before dinner. Then on weekends you can spice it up with a little more enjoyable leisure interests like dancing, swimming or any other outdoor “MOVING” activity.
YOU SEE...IT’S JUST A MATTER OF CONVICTION ;)
Saying “I do!” gives us the jitters, but is it just for that very moment of saying the vows?
I’m sure before a couple reaches that very climax of standing before tons of guests, the whole clan of both and different sets of friends, they have gone through the phase of thinking, “am I ready for this?” and “do I really want to be with this person for a life time?”…Even more so, of that greater concern of building a family.
We can say that this STARTING A FAMILY is a very big and serious responsibility because this time it’s not simply being accountable for your own good but of other lives as well. Of innocent souls that will depend on you for them to live and of what they will become in the years to come.
CHILDREN are wonderful blessings that every loving parent desire, but let us not forget that once you beget them, you will have to be there for them AT ALL TIMES. You are expected to shape them to the best of your capability through constant supervision and guidance, by being a role model that they are to imitate and last but definitely NOT the least by ensuring that they are traveling the right path in their Spiritual Life.
In your own personal dictionary you would have to delete divorce, annulment, infidelity, abuse, selfishness…and every negative word that will affect your family. Highlighted there would be GODLINESS, happiness, love, care, security, respect, encouragement…positive traits that you will be needing to keep the family shining in the eyes of it’s members and others; and to keep the family intact!!!
I was once a busy body in one of the busiest business district in the country, Ayala Makati. I am one of those that walks briskly at all times in rhythm with the fast pace of life that is quite ordinary in this phase and age.
It seems like a lifetime ago, but I still remember that personal urge to work, work and work to my hearts delight. Not just for the fame, the growth and experience…but also for the wealth one needs to live in this material world.
IT IS NOT BAD TO WANT THEM OR TO NEED THEM...but it becomes so when it starts to be the center or the purpose of ones life. What of your spiritual life? Is it coming last after all those material concerns? That any church activity or service can only be done if there’s space left or if there’s no other worldly thing to do?
REMINDER TO KEEP IN MIND: Life on earth is far too short, incomparable to forever! And the way to forever is not through those worldly goods but through our Lord Jesus Christ!
Let us not see trials as defeat. Don’t let yourself stay in the puddle because you have the option to clean yourself and move on. You were misled by your weaknesses? Temporarily waylaid by temptations? Wake yourself up, repent and learn from it…AND GO BACK TO THE RIGHT PATH because you are still given the chance to reach your goal. Our goal…to eternal happiness. To God, our loving Father. Today, you are breathing, proof enough that you are given another chance. DO IT NOW while you still have the time!!!
Have it ever crossed your mind lately as you sit watching the evening news, “What’s happening to the world?” Forest fires, typhoons and hurricanes, floods, or earthquakes comes in unbelievable downpour.
Is this just Mother Nature shouting her frustrations with mankind?
What of the corruptions? Alcoholism and drug abuse? Unimaginable originality of crimes and pure evil deeds? Or of famine, poverty and newly surfacing incurable diseases?
Has it ever occurred to you of our Creator and One, True God?
Life on earth, if we try and look back, gets tougher and tougher to live through. There are more cruelties and pains that we need to face everyday, and we need to be a lot stronger than those who lived centuries ago. Life is not as simple as it used to. At first financial concerns come to mind, but if you think harder, even common relationship to others are also of a great concern. It’s painful to realize that technology boost made our daily chores easier, but it also had significant contribution to life destruction.
TICK-TOCK, TICK-TOCK!
Our time seems to be running out all the time. I often hear myself and others saying, “ang bilis ng oras ngayon” (“how time flies nowadays”) or “parang hiniliha ang panahon” (“it feels like we’re being dragged in time”)…BUT when you really look at your watch and try and gauge the pace of every minute or second, it seems to be just as it was. MAYBE because everything is possible with God!!! That He can do everything He decides and pleases. If He wants to make the time fly by without you noticing it and just accepting it, He can very well do it.
What we can do is to sit down and let it all sink in…LIFE ON EARTH IS WAY TOO SHORT and there’s nothing we can do but MAKE IT WORTHY OF MORE THAN JUST A LIFETIME! We are passing by in this life as a test to our worthiness to FOREVER THAT ONLY GOD CAN GIVE US!!!
Now, think, think, thinkity think…are you living it the way you should to get the prize of unending happiness? Or you’re simply living your today without concern to what’s next after you stop breathing?
